Extract from Syllabus of Technical Allowance.

Bank and other general holidays.

The training or operators in wireless reception etc. is carried out at our own stations. From 4 to 6 weeks is

allowed before a qualified telegraphist is permitted to take

a wireless watch alone.

The Officers-in-Charge of the Stations are selected from

the Operators' Class after due consideration as to the

qualifications of the Candidates.

A copy of the Syllabus of the Technical Examination is

attached.

Syllabus of Departmental Technical Examination.

(a) Fundamental Principles of Electricity and Magnetism and their application to Telegraphy and Wireless Telegraphy.

(b) Batteries (Primary):- Construction and Chemical action, Grouping of cells.

(Secondary): The various types, their installation and practical treatment. Precautions in charging and discharging. Testing by Hydrometer and Voltmeter.

(c) Telegraph Instruments:- Principles and Construction of Morse Sounder, ordinary and polarised. Simple telegraph circuits. Keys. Relays. Simple Switches.

(d) Condensers:- Construction and Theory. Use in Wireless Telegraphy.

(e) Electrical Machinery and apparatus:- Principles underlying the construction and application of Dynamos, Alternators and Motors, Voltmeters and Ammeters. Frises. Automatic Cutouts.. Starting Switches. Transformers,

(f) Wireless

Theory of, Damped and Undamped oscillations - production of. Electrical radiation. Principal Wireless Systems in use

Construction of aerial Gear, Transmitting
